REVEAL™ PHOTOCHROMIC LENS TECH

We’re widely known for our REVEAL™ photochromic lens technology. Heck, it is likely how you heard about us in the first place… so let’s go behind the lens and see what REVEAL™ photochromic is, and more importantly, how REVEAL™ photochromic can upgrade your time outside.

What is photochromic?

pho·to·chro·mic

/ˌfōdəˈkrōmik/

adjective

(of a substance) undergoing a reversible change in color or shade when exposed to light of a particular frequency or intensity.

Simply put, lenses featuring our REVEAL™ photochromic technology automatically shift their tint in response to the UV light they are exposed to. The lens will lighten in stormy, shadowy, or night conditions and then when exposed to bright sunshine the lens will darken in response to the extra UV light.

How do photochromic lenses work?

Every photochromic lens is integrated with trillions of photochromic molecules. When exposed to UV light, the structure of these molecules changes. The molecules expand (darkening the lens) in bright light, and then those same molecules contract (lightening the lens) when the UV light exposure lessens. Science.

How do REVEAL™ photochromic lenses work for me?

REVEAL™ photochromic eliminates the guesswork of choosing a lens for the day’s adventure. Due to its automatic responsiveness, a REVEAL™ photochromic lens does the work for you; changing its tint and making sure that, whatever and whenever, you have the best visibility for the moment.

Our REVEAL™ photochromic lenses are truly a single lens solution for any, and every, activity.

What are the types of REVEAL™ photochromic lenses?

REVEAL™ Photochromic Goggles

Specially designed to work in cold conditions, our special recipe REVEAL™ photochromic goggle lenses have the widest range of tint-changing performance on the mountain. With some extra magic we formulated our goggle lenses so that no matter the goggle lens color you choose, every REVEAL™ Photochromic goggle lens shares the same wide-range of tint-changing performance.

REVEAL™ Photochromic Sunglasses

To ensure you see every root, rock, and pesky pine cone in your path, our Trails Collection of sunglasses exclusively feature REVEAL™ photochromic lenses that automatically adjust tint, protecting your eyes from alpine starts to bright afternoons and everything in between.

REVEAL™ Polarized Photochromic Sunglasses

Enhanced with glare-reducing polarization, our REVEAL™ polarized photochromic lenses adjust their tint and cut glare giving you crisp vision and ultimate protection. It’s the perfect tool for stalking that next fish regardless of the conditions.

What is VLT?

VLT is an acronym for Visible Light Transmission. This is an indicator of how much light is allowed to pass through the lens. With the tint-adjusting performance of REVEAL™ photochromic lenses, every lens will have a percentage range shown indicating its VLT ability in both bright and dark conditions.

For example; REVEAL™ Photochromic goggle lenses have a VLT range of 16% - 61%. The 16% value indicates that in the brightest conditions, the lens will darken to allow in only 16% of visible light. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the 61% value indicates that in darker, stormier conditions, that lens will adjust to allow in a whopping 61% of the visible light.

Where the magic really happens is that the molecules within the lens are constantly working and adjusting within that range, so they’ll be automatically working all day to ensure that you stay protected as you dip in and out of the trees, or when that bright afternoon sunshine finally cuts through the lingering fog.
